ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates plans to inject an extra €15 billion into Greece as part of a bilateral investment effort. Announced on October 22 during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visit to Athens, this move expands upon a €4 billion initiative launched in May 2022, with the goal of strengthening economic and strategic connections.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office indicated that this expansion will enhance collaboration in sectors deemed strategic and priority for both nations. The initial framework encouraged joint investments across mutual areas of interest and has already facilitated key transactions in energy and healthcare. Officials highlighted that these achievements demonstrate the potential for transforming economic opportunities into concrete investments, and the new funds are intended to reinforce that existing structure.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussion focused on ways to advance cooperation in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and cutting-edge technology. They also examined regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, underscoring the ongoing development of bilateral relations.
Strategic forum results in €12.75 billion in new agreements
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens, where over €12.75 billion worth of agreements and business partnerships were signed between UAE and Greek organizations. These deals span areas such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. It is important to note that these agreements are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi stated that the agreements and the new €15 billion investment plan reflect rising confidence between the two economies. He emphasized the need to convert this momentum into viable projects, describing the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, while referring to Greece as a strategic gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also took part in the forum.
Greece positioned as a key access point to European markets
The UAE described its decision as a reflection of confidence in Greece’s economic strength and investment potential. It highlighted Greece’s strategic location and its role in linking European markets with regional and international ones. The expanded initiative aims to foster collaboration among investment institutions and companies from both nations, as well as promote innovation and knowledge exchange. The goal is to create new opportunities for investments across sectors.
This announcement is part of a broader UAE strategy to establish enduring investment alliances across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany across various industries and has been engaging in increased discussions with other European partners such as Italy. Officials noted that the Greek initiative signifies the beginning of a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
